It needs a discerning eye to see a huge invisible and less-talked about market around the used car users all over the country

I do not know how many of you have noticed that an old car of yours which fetches you an X amount in the metropolitan city like Mumbai can get you upto 1.5 X in B or C class cities like Jabalpur and Indore.

The reason is simple to understand. A city is known by the infrastructure it has which is directly linked to its economic status of its population. It is easy to understand that a city population with high disposable incomes would change the consumer durables more often than the one lower on that economic scale.

The result being that among other things you have more cars changed and hence higher availability of used cars for sale. You don’t need a car review to tell you why the cost of cars in big cities is much lower than in the smaller cities.

The class of traders which thrives on such a situation is auto dealers. They come to the big cities in hordes; pick up the junk in the name of used cars, take them back to their towns and cities, refurbish them at cheap garages and sell them at premium. Such cars cater to the aspirations of the masses which have not been exposed to a culture economically higher than theirs. Hence the aspirations they have too fall in a lower bracket. Hence here is the market for the used cars.

Cheap Indian used cars have not only attracted the small-time auto dealers, they are now being equally fancied by premium dealers and even top brand car manufacturers. Banks too have tied up with the recognised and with the high-end used car dealers to make available finance to those who would be happy to own used cars.
It needs a discerning eye to see a huge invisible and less-talked about market around the used car users all over the country.

I have to reveal up front that I own an older 3-series BMW, so I am quite aware of its abilities and drawbacks. And as many different types of cars that I drive, I am always happy to return to my baby. But when I got behind the wheel of the new 330i (Edmunds pricing at $39,184) I could tell that this machine was a sharp step up in performance within a quarter mile.

At my first ride in the driver’s seat, I couldn’t get over the ergonomics of the steering wheel. Every car has one, and I’ve handled a few unusual ones, but my grip has never felt more at home than with this 330i. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t a heated steering while like the 7-series, and it was quite cold outside.) Then BMW mates this steering wheel with very precise steering for a sedan-level car.

The German automobiles avoid the low-end torque that American makers’ design, instead they offer a slower launch, but smoother, linear acceleration. And the silky 6-cylinder engine is particularly noticeable with a manual transmission in this car. BMW finally added a 6th gear for the stick shift, and I say it is overdue. My old one has 50,000 miles and the gearing still makes me look for 6th when I run up through the gears - but sadly there are only 5 to be had. Since the 330i generates 255 horsepower, far more than I am used to for daily driving, I may have to upgrade my radar detector.

Yes, the car basics are spectacular - engine, ride, steering (even the steering wheel), but the electronics controls are a comical disappointment. Anyone that has driven this car has a story about turning on the turn signals from one side to the other and back again, during a vain attempt to turn them off. I know people in the area gave me a wider berth, thinking I was a confused and lost driver. The turning signal lever doesn’t ‘click’ into place as the rest of the world has come to commonly expect turn signals to function. With the 330i, you tap the signal, such as for passing, and it automatically flashes three times and then turns off. But you can hold the lever a little longer, and you get your normal-action from the turn signal. But on a soft turn, where the signal doesn’t turn off, you have to flick it the other way to turn it off. But in the hurry of the moment, if it is more than a flick, then you just indicated from your signals that you are turning in the opposite direction. And this goes back

Words on modifying motor venicles to run on water are spreading very fast. We have heard of “Water Car”,”HHO Cars”, etc., with claims of sigmificant fuel efficiency are achievable by simply adding water. If these claims are real, motorists could expect extra several hundreds to thousands of dollars cash in their pockets. Advertisements on do-it-yourself manuals and kits costing less than 100 dollars are found everywhere. Let’s see whether “Running your car on water” is possible right now?, not in a decade or two, and at what cost?.

Water car, HHO car, etc., are simply cars modified to include special devices that turn water into HHO gas, sometimes called Brown’s Gas or Hydroxy. The gas does not actually drive the vehicle, but dramatically improves burning efficiency in the combustion chamber. HHO gas is produced by an electrolyzer, using electric current from the vehicle’s battery. The gas is then introduced to the combustion chamber through the intake manifold.

In normal situation, without this HHO gas, combustion is usually poor due to the oversized fuel droplets in the mixture. The efficiency of normal internal combustion engine in general is unsatisfactorily low and around 75-80% of gasoline converts to pollution and carbon deposit(unburned fuel), heat, vibration and noise- instead of forward motion.

With HHO gas introduced into the chamber, the oversized fuel droplets are splitted or cut into smaller ones by the very tiny Hydrogen, which also attach itself to the finer droplets. The resulting very fine hydrogen-enhanced mixture is burned much more thoroughly. This more complete combustion results in lowered emission and improved mileage. HHO gas is said to be about 3 times more potent than gasoline of equal weight.

Do-It-Yourself conversion manuals are available online for around $50 to $100 only. The major vendors are Water4Gas.com, RunYourCarwithWater.com, Burn-Water.net and DriveWater.com. It should be noted that, though the manuals do not include parts needed for the system, they usually show you how to make or where to buy the required parts. These parts are

normally available quite cheaply at your local hardware store and total cost should be less than $200. The modification could readily be carried out by yourself, following the detailed blueprint given in the manual. If you choose to get your mechanic do it for you, it should only take him or her less than an hour. Once assembled, you are now ready to run your car on gas and save on fuel, as well as being a part in reducing pollution and global warming.
